Dana Point 01/31/15
« on: February 02, 2015, 07:53:24 AM »
Here's some pics from out trip on Saturday (01/31/15).  I met up with Sam and Jack at Dana at about 6-6:30a.  Upon arrival I seen Ben at the launch as well getting ready.  We all got ready and launched from Dana.  When we arrived to the destination we seen one Charter hook up.  We put our lines in the water and began to fish.  In the beginning we had nothing.  Jack spotted some birds circling so Sam and I decided to check it out.  After a few minutes I get a call on the radio from Sam...Hook up! I went towards Sam to see if he needed help, but he had everything under control.  After a long and good fight he landed a Yellow!  That got us all pumped up.  After a while fishing in the same spot with no luck we decided to head towards deeper waters.  We fished for a bit then, Bam! another bite!  I am now hooked up!  After fighting the fish for a while it finally comes up.  We ended up with these two beauties!  We did really well compared to all the boats around us and had a lot of eyes on us.  Well hope you guys enjoy!

Nice yellowtail TOADS!

I knew those Lunkers were quality just by seeing the tails sticking out of your guy's ice chests when I ran into you guys at the Box. Sam told me he caught his bruiser on the yoyo scrambled egg salas. What did you nail your with? I'm very happy for you guys...again, Congrats! Warning....catching big game yellowtails may be addictive :D

I'll see you guys on the water soon! Ben

Looks like you guys had a great time! Thanks socali714, for sharing the story and the pics. I especially love the gaffing one. I haven't had a chance to do this kind of fishing yet but looking at the images, I can really get a sense of how fun it must be.  I was getting the impression that the yellowtail season was pretty much done - good to see there's still a lot of life left out there.

The warmer waters brought up a lot of pelagic fish and yellows stuck around in the warm pockets of water. This year was an unusual event and i just hope it continues as there hasnt been any local YT bite like this in years.
